🧶 Now Hiring: Knitting Instructors
About Us
The Common Thread is St. Petersburg’s new yarn shop + café, a cozy community space where fiber lovers of all levels come to connect, learn, and create. Classes are at the heart of what we do, and we’re building a team of skilled, passionate knitting instructors to help us share the joy of fiber arts.
The Role
We’re looking for experienced knitters with advanced skills (to mastery) who love teaching others. You’ll guide students through private lessons and small-group classes (60–90 minutes), starting from absolute beginners through to advanced techniques.
This is a collaborative role: we’ll work with you to build a unified curriculum and set of teaching materials so that every student gets a consistent, high-quality learning experience while still letting your personality and specialties shine.
What You’ll Do
Teach engaging classes for beginners and beyond (private, semi-private, and small groups).
Collaborate on a structured curriculum and teaching resources.
Customize instruction to student needs while keeping lessons approachable and fun.
Share your expertise in specialty techniques (brioche, lace, intarsia, colorwork, socks, etc.).
Foster an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere that reflects The Common Thread’s values.
What We’re Looking For
Advanced to master-level knitting skills.
Strong communication and teaching ability.
Reliability and professionalism.
Certification through TKGA, Craft Yarn Council, or similar programs (bonus, not required).
Flexibility to teach evenings or weekends.
How We Handle Materials
We ask all students to either purchase their yarn from The Common Thread or bring beginner-friendly supplies (light-colored worsted yarn, US size 8–10 needles). This ensures students have the right tools, supports our local yarn shop, and makes your job easier as an instructor.
Compensation
This is a percentage-based role. Instructors receive 60% of group class instruction fees; The Common Thread retains 40% and all supply revenue.
Example: $40 class fee × 6 students = $240 revenue → Instructor earns $144.
For private, one-on-one lessons, instructors receive a flat rate of $30 per 60-minute session.
Rates for specialty workshops are set collaboratively with our team.
To Apply
Please send us:
A short introduction about your teaching experience.
The techniques/projects you’re most confident teaching.
Your availability (daytime, evenings, weekends).
If this sounds like you, please send your resume and cover letter to hello@commonthreadstpete.com
We look forward to meeting you!
